Have you ever wondered how theatre began?
Theatre originated in Ancient Greece!
Theatre was a form of entertainment and began as a festival to celebrate the Greek god Dionysus (the god of grape-harvest and fertility). Theatre eventually became a HUGE part of Greek culture.
Typically, only two types of plays were performed:
Some Greek theatre could seat over 10,000 people!
These theaters were designed as a half circle for the audience to sit and watch with the stage in the middle. This shape allowed the actors voices to carry throughout the space!
