Let's talk about PLAY!
There's no doubt that parents have been trying to figure out ways to keep their children busy over the last couple of months during the COVID-19 quarantine. In the midst of tackling "school at home", make sure to add just as much playtime (if not more) into your day! Check out this article from the Official Journal of American Academy of Pediatrics about why playtime is so important to the well-being of our kids and youth. Of course, make sure to practice your instrument and acting skills each day, but if you need some creative inspiration, our friends over at No Time for Flashcards have you covered! They came up with an awesome list of ideas for outdoor play. Here's our Top 5 Favorite Picks: 1. Melt Crayons in the Sun 2. Paint like Jackson Pollock 3. Flower Painting 4. Go on a sound safari 5. Play Angry Birds with Water Balloons There you have it - fun for hours! Make sure to send tag us @lantiperformingarts if you try one (or all) of these outdoor play ideas! Want more ideas? Take a look at the full list HERE. Speaking of fun activities - Lanti Performing Arts is home to some of the most creative music and acting camps in Indian Trail, NC (located just outside of Charlotte). Hey mamas...can we take a minute and pause from the school work, cooking 5 million meals a week, and the zoom meetings? I know you're juggling a lot right now and with the upcoming Mother's Day weekend - this year tops the charts of "We Are Earning the Mom Title"! Am I right?! If you're anything like me, you've had a roller coaster of days while in quarantine... Great days, Lazy days, Play outside days, Movie days, Missing friends & family days Dance party days, Too much technology days, Melt-down days, Smell the flower days, Messy days, Messy days, Messy days (felt I needed to add that 3 times!), Winning school days, Close all the books and cry days. Friend - you are not alone! These days are totally normal day right now and we're ALL having them! I love the fourth agreement, from Don Miguel Ruiz's book, The Four Agreements. (If you haven't read it - grab it on Amazon - it's so insightful!) His message is simple. Always do your best. Ruiz explains, "Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret." How freeing is this!? Maybe on Monday you were a total Pinterest/Marie Kondo/Super-Mom but today you're just struggling to put on pants and make sure you don't eat the whole bag of Oreos. No matter what kind of day it is today - give yourself grace, give others grace, and just keep doing your best! Take a breath. Each moment is a new moment. And who knows - tomorrow night you might even cook a 7-course meal in your little black dress (HA! Who am I kidding!? I don't even know what day it is - we'll be rocking some PB&J again!) Keep earning your title because you are one incredible quarantine-surviving mama! P.S. Feel free to save the pic below as your phone screensaver - we can all use the daily reminder! |
